Creating a website is more than just arranging pictures and text, mashing together code, and posting it to Twitter. It's a process that demands utmost care and thoroughness. Increasingly, we are all defined by our online presence, be it a company website, a personal blog, podcast, or even a Facebook page. And in an age of short attention spans, 140 character blips and sound bites, never has the need for more care been greater, nor the margin of error been thinner, to convey the best impression you can to your clients, associates, loved ones and the world at large.
From inception to launch, from construction to promotion, I will throw over 5 years of experience in web and digital media at your project, guaranteeing a cleaner, more accessible and more effective online presence.
Building a Web Presence
Planning
Each project starts with a lengthy, thorough assessment of my client's goals, needs and resources. From this arises a custom web strategy, specifically tailored for success. Each project is different, and rarely does one strategy fit all projects, so this planning stage is crucial - it lays the groundwork for a successful project.Ideas are mapped, a coherent structure is laid out, and detailed sketches and mockups are produced, all according to established design principles and based on concrete usability data.
Development
After the planning stage is completed, work begins on developing content. Sometimes, text needs to be written, graphics designed and images optimized, all for use on the web.Once all content is created, it's ready to go on the website. There are several ways to publish a website, from using a desktop HTML editor (like Adobe Dreamweaver), to newer Content Management Systems (such as WordPress or Joomla).
Regardless of what I use to code it, every website I build is presentable, easy to use, and most importantly, functional. All my websites are W3C standards-compliant, cross-platform compatible, and handicap-accessible.
Maintenance and Growth
A web project does not end the instant it's uploaded and published. Gone are the days of static, one-way, strictly informational websites. Modern websites are fluid, evolving entities, and are increasingly two-way streets when interacting with your audience.People grow and change, much like companies grow and change. Likewise, a website should reflect this by growing and changing along. For instance, content will need to be regularly updated in order to maintain interest.
But where the site ends, and the rest of the web begins, lies a whole new phase of development - harnessing the power of the Internet. After submitting your site to search engines, I will employ the use of analytics and keywords so people can easily find it. I will also open up new avenues of marketing and user relations by leveraging social media. Occasionally, the site will need to be refitted or redesigned as standards evolve and new technologies are adopted.
